I recently purchased L.A Noire through Amazon and received it release day.

Generally to review games people rate them on graphics, sound etc but I will give you the executive summary with the cool and fun aspects of the game, NO spoilers.

L.A Noire is a different genre of game, I would almost classify it as a entertainment/film and action game. My roomate and myself find it fun to play it in a team and figure out clues, decisions and the interview format of the game. A lot of the game seems like Rockstar’s previous with cut scene action and driving and shooting but it is much more linear in motion then Read Dead Redemption of GTA IV. One thing is clear, they made the game different for a reason. The cases themselves still have a very open element of choice though. Overall I would recommend renting L.A Noire first in order to see if this style of gameplay is for you, then purchase it.

Cool stuff:
-Solid achievement list
-Great crime scenes and challenging interviews
-Different crime types
-Perfect scenery and historical perspective

Alright so most of us gamers have certainly gotten the 19.99 walmart box special from the relatives before, it’s that game that everyone had two years ago or has no interest at all in.

The question then becomes after i return this what should I buy, first and foremost buy groceries like red bull and pizza. But if your good on all that stuff here are some recommendations:

1. Play and charge kits- gotta have for anyone who games over thirty minutes a day.

2. New dvd or blu-ray, expand your media library beside games and grab a new flick

3. Interior decoration: movie posters, new pillows or a sick looking book shelf from Ikea are a good idea to spiff up the bachelor pad

4. Air freshners- need I say more?

5. Used games from amazon or local store

With the holidays right around the corner many people have to shop for the gamer in their family or circle of friends, but what to get them that will surprise and make them excited?

Here are three gifts that will please any gamer:

1. Xbox Live Subscription/points , Wii points or Playstation Network Card

Every gamer needs to stay online and well supplied with extra content or mini games. With many users watching video rentals and downloading extra content there is no easier way to allow your gamer to find what they like without the whole “gift card” giving fiasco.

2. Controllers and Remotes

New controllers for a console gamer are important as well as batteries for them. A DVD or Blu-ray remote for Xbox and Playstation consoles offers the gamer a new toy to use. Racing gamers also love steering wheels for their games.

3. Gamer Lifestyle Gifts

If your not really sure what accesories and game library the gamer has have no fear!

Almost all gamers need some of the following:

  • Energy drink of choice (red bull, monster etc.)
  • Batteries or battery packs
  • Theater candy boxes
  • New DVD or Blu-Ray movies
  • Screen Cloth and cleaner

Many gamers use wireless internet so upgrading their router to a new router will help with not only gaming but their other media use including laptops, printers, streaming video and digital cameras. I would recommend one of the following:

1. DLink 655 Wireless N router:  http://amzn.to/gX8GPE

2.Buffalo Technology Nfiniti Wifi-N : http://amzn.to/f7LA1Y

With many of 2010’s big game titles released it is time to look forward to 2011 and what the studios will bring us.

A promising title is Rockstar Games “L.A. Noire” a game about detectives in Los. Angeles with what will most likely be a free roam like environment such at GTA IV or Red Dead Redemption. The game’s graphics look great and the technology behind the game involves actors and using motion scanning to create smirks and emotions that will add to the games feel.

No mention of multiplayer has been made, overall it seems that the game will be a solid long storyline that will really engross the player in a  James Bond like thriller that is in a 48 hours episode based in the 1940’s. Rockstar has set a release date range in the spring of 2011.

With Fallout New Vegas’ release in the US yesterday I bought a Red Bull and stayed up fairly late enjoying the vast wasteland. For those of you not familiar with Fallout I encourage you to check out the Fallout website:

(NO SPOILERS)

Now, the game is definitely similar to Fallout 3 in the way the game works and plays. The storyline starts out a little slow but really picks up once you start to talk to local people and find out their problems and issues. The new underlying theme in the game is the many factions that you can make your Ally or axis. You have a ranking system, from hated to idolized and you really choose how this happens. There are basically three main factions when you start out: New California Republic, Caesar’s Legion, Powder Gangers. The varying characters and animals have a fairly good AI. Many new weapons are also available from some classic guns like a 9mm pistol, varmint rifle and the carry over 10mm pistol from fallout 3. You will start the game with some fairly small weaponery. Scavenge around and you will find weapons and ammo.

Other cool new things in the game:
– Build your own ammo
– Create weapon mods
– build weapons
– Cook up meds or food at campfires

New locations are fairly easy to see from high vantage points but the map is fairly large and open. I am looking forward to exploring outside the beginning areas and seeing what all lies ahead. Advice: Buy this game, have a good block of time to really get into it because it is a lot of fun.
